Getting to Sonambulas
Tofo Beach is located approximately 500km north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The journey offers breathtaking coastal views and a taste of authentic Mozambican culture.
- By Air: Fly to Inhambane Airport (INH), then take a 30-minute taxi ride to Tofo Beach.
- From Maputo: Drive approximately 6 hours north via the EN1 highway, then turn east to Inhambane and Tofo.
- From Vilankulo: Travel south for about 4-5 hours along the coastal route.
- Local Transport: Taxis and chapas (local minibuses) are readily available from Inhambane town.
Once you arrive in Tofo, follow the main beach road north. Sonambulas is located on the beachfront, clearly marked with our distinctive signage.

The best time to visit Tofo Beach is from April to November during the dry season. The weather is warm and sunny with minimal rainfall. This period is ideal for diving, snorkeling, and whale watching, especially from June to November when humpback whales migrate through our waters.

Lightweight, breathable clothing is essential. Don't forget sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Bring swimwear for beach activities and comfortable shoes for exploring. A light jacket is useful for cooler evenings. Water shoes are recommended for rocky beach areas.
